I'm getting laid off from my job of 12 years and I'm planning a trip to India in May.

WoYoPracMo - practice

April 2008
1-5th My difficult pose that I want to work on is Bhujapidasana, which also includes Tittibhasana and Bakanasana. Very Challenging. My last day or work was March 28th. It's been a week of unemployment. It's been a little strange, but good. A couple of my co-workers got great jobs, which is very encouraging. I've been practicing yoga everyday. I leave for India in 2 weeks, which will be here before I know it.

6th - 30th. I continued to work on Bhujapidasana. I'm able to get my chin on the floor which my feet touching the floor also. I have much to work on, but it's improving.

March 2008
1-9th: I'm not feeling very grounded so far this month. I'm getting laid off from my job in 3 weeks, and my parents were in town last week for their annual ski trip which was a lot of fun and very cold. My friend Jeff always said that yoga is good for skiing, but skiing is not good for yoga. I'm sure I will be very stiff for Monday's practice and sore the rest of the week.

10th - 15th After not practicing for 4 days, I'm back to my normal schedule, and I was not as stiff as I thought I was going to be. The weather is warming up a little which is really nice. I was talking to a girlfriend this morning and she asked if I was getting stressed about being laid off. I'm not. Really, I'm not. I have a great trip planned to go to India for 5 weeks, and I'm very peaceful about everything. Luckily, I'm getting a great severance package which relieves a lot of stress, but still I should be wigging out a little. I think yoga has really helped in that aspect. Yoga de-stresses, debugs, de-everything. Yoga has been a constant in my life for the past 6 going on 7 years, and maybe I'm grounded because of it.

16th - 23rd Happy Easter. Of course it snowed in Denver. Nothing like hunting for eggs in the snow. My practice has been a little sporatic this week. Bendy is taking a writing class on Wed (our usual yoga day), Good Friday and Easter. I've been much better about practicing by myself. Today, I will venture to class by myself since I don't have children or family in the area.

24th - 30th Well, I'm offically unemployeed. My last at work we Friday. It was bitter sweet. I'll miss the people, but not the work. I was very greatful that Bendy came over to practice yoga. It's amazing how yoga keeps you grounded. I'm planning a great trip to India and I'll find another job. I have much to be greatful for.

February 2008
My intention for February is to maintain a daily practice.

Feb 1-9: My plan is to do full primary series 4 days a week, and a 45 minute practice the other 3 days. So far so good. I've continued to see small improvements, which is nice.

Feb 10th -16th. During the Winter in Denver does affect my practice. On cold days, I'm stiffer. On Wed, the weather had warmed up, and I could tell the difference. I can't wait for Spring.

Feb 17th - 25th. I missed my first day of practice since the beginning of January. I'll blame it on my sister. It worked when we were younger. My sister was in town this past weekend, and we had a great time. No yoga on Saturday. Oh well.

Feb 26th - Feb 29th My practice continues to grow. My troublesome left hip feels great. I looking forward to March.

January 2008
Days 1-10: I have so far practiced every day. Except for last Saturday and Tuesday, I have done the full Ashtanga practice. The other two days consisted of a ten minute quickies. I had to practice by myself tonight, because Bendy had to cancel. I always amaze myself when I do the entire series by myself.

Days 11-14: Full practices except for Saturday which was cut short by a birthday party. I've continued to see very small improvements, which is countered by stiffness the next day.

Days 15-19: I had one very bad practice on Wed maybe due to dental appt I had early that morning, but the other practices were quite good. Whenever I have a really good practice, the next days practice is usually not so good. Bendy said, 'You never know', and she was right. I had three good practices in a row. Bendy is very wise.

Days 20-25: Jan, so far, has been a great month, hard, but great. I did full practices everyday except Tues which was about 40 minutes. Friday I practices with Yogamum, Bendy and Putmoo. It's more like social yoga. We chat about popping joints, stiffness, and we assist each other. It fun to practice with friends.

Days 26-31 Yeah!!! I made it. Bendy and I completed our final WoYoPracMo practice this afternoon. These last practices were great. I binded by myself in Supta Kurmasana for the first time. That was the grand prize.

Mysore, Day 28

Today was last practice, and it was great. I've had a little intestinal issue the last couple of days, and I was not feeling that great. I finally took took a prescription that the travel nurse gave me, and it worked wonders. It's good to feel good. I've had a wonderful adventure, and meet some really nice people. It's been a great experience, but I'm ready to come home. I will miss the energy of practicing with 70 other people, but I won't miss the hot weather. I feel wilted most of the day. I… Continue

Mysore, Day 24

My practice is steady, and I'm seeing small improvements. Just when things are clicking, I have to leave. Now I understand why people stay for 3 months. Hopefully, I can continue a consistent practice when I get back home. Another yogi went to the hospital this week. She had dysentery, and she was pretty sick. She doing well now. My roommate had a cut that got infected, and had to go see a Doctor. I went to an Indian wedding today with a couple of friends. We got all dressed up in our Sari's.… Continue

Mysore, Day 19

I finished practice this morning, and a friend, Ann, was waiting outside the Shala. She missed class. Turns out she slipped in the bath, and hit her elbow. She asked if I would go to the hospital with her. Off we go in a rickshaw to the hospital. After 3 hours (somethings are the same worldwide), she got 4 stitches. They had to repair the muscle also. Bummer!!!! She still has 2 more weeks. I'm not sure if she will be able to practice next week. She taking it in stride - it could have worse attit… Continue

Mysore, Day 18

Bless me Father for I have sinned..... Last night about a dozen yogi's went to a night club, and I had a gin and lime soda. It was sooooo good. I also shared a plate of french fries. Yum!!! It was actually a pretty fancy place. We went with some locals who were all dressed up in party cloths. I was feeling a little frumpy in my wrinkled pants and top. I had my one pair or earrings on. It was fun to get out if only for a few hours and be indulgent. Tomorrow, back to practice at 5:00 am.

Mysore, Day 15

It's hard to believe that I'm half way through my stay in Mysore. I only have 2 more weeks left. I had my Thai massage yesterday and it was amazing. After the 1 and half hour session in which he pulled, press and kneaded me, he said that he's not concerned about my hips. Whatever is going on will move on. Yeah! BUT he is very concerned about my stiff shoulders? Really? I must have had a surprised look on my face because he asked if I thought my shoulders were open. Well, compared to some people… Continue

I have to admit I'm really surprised at how my practice has improved in January. I've had a very stiff hip since last Spring that has been giving me trouble, and it's great to see progress. My stubborn hamstrings are less stiff with a daily practice. Why did I not do this sooner??? I guess all things happen when they are suppose too. Another motivation is what I call the Mysore Effect. Since I've have planned my trip to India, I want to be prepared.

I just read your "about me" section. I'm looking forward to hear about your journey to India.

And finally another ashtangi that took 3 years to get hands flat on standing postures, being an ex-runner I can totally relate. I still have to bend my knees in the first Namaskara's to let my hamstrings warm up, and I've been practing for 10 years.
