Ashtanga. But I also show up in vinyasa classes now and then. At home, tho, it's all Ashtanga all the time (well, that and the Rocket, but that's a longish story).
How long have you been practicing yoga?
4 years as of sometime in July!

July 6-7: A little Ashtanga/sampling "Power Yoga"

Yesterday's practice was a "respect the sore hip flexors" show; 10 sun salutations, standing to Prasarita Padottanasana A. I didn't have more in me than that. In about half an hour, I'm going to go sample a "power yoga" hour, and we'll see how that goes! I miss led classes, and particularly in my bitter little struggle with Ashtanga backbends, sometimes I feel like wandering off the map.

July 5: Vinyasa class downtown!

Rawr! The studio where I usually teach in the morning on Saturday was closed today, which allowed me to go to the very fun and often quite intense vinyasa class downtown, which I really like. It was mad crazy! About 20 people at 8 am, crowded into this room, for utkatasanas, sun salutations, prayer-twists-to-high-lunges-to-side-planks-and-back, halfmoons and warrior 3s, eagles, arm balances like Eka Pada Galavasana (cross one shin over opposite leg, hands down, pick standing leg up), forward sp… Continue

July 4: Primary to Supta Kurmasana

Most of Primary; I really didn't want to practice, but I did anyway (benefits of a sequence you can memorize, totally). There's much more about this practice in my formal blog, which sits over here: theyogabum.blogspot.com Apparently, backbends are a place where I can unlearn fear and weakness. How Jedi Knight!

July 3: Light Practice.

I had a jury duty appointment this morning, which made a pretty mess out of my day. Meh. So this afternoon, I did 10 sun salutations, 3 bridges, 3 wheels, a forward bend, and then some Padmasana sitting. Called it a practice. It may not sound like much, but it was REALLY nice, and in places, deep.

July 2: Moon sequence!

Thanks Lauri, for the inspiration to get down and do this! The moon sequence is a light-on-the-wrists series of, largely, hip openers and backbends. Today, apparently, is the new moon (I spent most of the day thinking it was tomorrow), and so if you're playing strictly by the Tradition Book, you do something light today or you take the day off. Ahhhh, moon sequence. So nice, but not as sweaty and core-melting as Primary. Hah, plenty of time for that tomorrow.

Ack! So sorry, things got out of hand -- I always think I can get more done before a trip than is realistic. By the time you get this you will have made it through your adventure; I hope it brought you where you wanted to go.

Yeah, I figured I'd truck over there around noon. I don't know that area of town very well myself but I did manage to find it tonight pretty easily (thank god for mapquest), and I made it for the Moon practice. Wow. Schweet! I don't know why I was hemming and hawing about it earlier. Probably performance anxiety, as MS himself said tonight.

Lauri--enjoy Columbus and YOH! I've not been (although it's 3 hours from here by car) but it's still on the list, when I can afford a weekend road trip.

DurhamaSTangi--you get TWO weeks of Matthew? Wow! I'm headed to Minneapolis on Saturday to get one week of Matthew :)

Hello there, Patrick. NC - yes. There are some devoted astangis here. A nice place to be. We'd love to have an authorized teacher here, full time, but have a good workshop and visiting teacher program. Matthew Sweeney will be here for 2 weeks the end of July.

I'm really enjoying reading about others practitioners' experiences!

Also, I'm thinking about trying to sneak out of work a bit early on Friday to go to the Moon Series class that night. And while I'm in Columbus, I'm going to try to get to Yoga on High for my first official Ashtanga class. (I figure better to start far from home where no one will recognize me! haha)

I've made the Twin Cities-to-Columbus bomb a few times, in about 14 hours. It's a grind, but doable. In fact, when you are here I will actually be in Columbus, unfortunately. That woulda been cool!

I am getting there: it's going to be a massive drive on Saturday and then I'm in town until Thursday, leaving that same day. Hey, want to see if we can set eyes on each other?

Fun fun! You know what, tho? That was a random choice of pre-designed color palette, I just pulled it off a Blogger menu, and nobody believes me.
