Practice and all is coming -- Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
Yesterday's practice was a "respect the sore hip flexors" show; 10 sun salutations, standing to Prasarita Padottanasana A. I didn't have more in me than that. In about half an hour, I'm going to go sample a "power yoga" hour, and we'll see how that goes! I miss led classes, and particularly in my bitter little struggle with Ashtanga backbends, sometimes I feel like wandering off the map.

Rawr! The studio where I usually teach in the morning on Saturday was closed today, which allowed me to go to the very fun and often quite intense vinyasa class downtown, which I really like. It was mad crazy! About 20 people at 8 am, crowded into this room, for utkatasanas, sun salutations, prayer-twists-to-high-lunges-to-side-planks-and-back, halfmoons and warrior 3s, eagles, arm balances like Eka Pada Galavasana (cross one shin over opposite leg, hands down, pick standing leg up), forward sp… Continue

Most of Primary; I really didn't want to practice, but I did anyway (benefits of a sequence you can memorize, totally). There's much more about this practice in my formal blog, which sits over here: theyogabum.blogspot.com Apparently, backbends are a place where I can unlearn fear and weakness. How Jedi Knight!

I had a jury duty appointment this morning, which made a pretty mess out of my day. Meh. So this afternoon, I did 10 sun salutations, 3 bridges, 3 wheels, a forward bend, and then some Padmasana sitting. Called it a practice. It may not sound like much, but it was REALLY nice, and in places, deep.

Thanks Lauri, for the inspiration to get down and do this! The moon sequence is a light-on-the-wrists series of, largely, hip openers and backbends. Today, apparently, is the new moon (I spent most of the day thinking it was tomorrow), and so if you're playing strictly by the Tradition Book, you do something light today or you take the day off. Ahhhh, moon sequence. So nice, but not as sweaty and core-melting as Primary. Hah, plenty of time for that tomorrow.
