Practice tonight was 30 gentle minutes from a favorite DVD. The session was called "unwinding muscle tension", but the mental unwinding was really the best part. After a couple weeks of worry over being very uncomfortable with my back to the mat, the doc has sorted me out, I'm healing, and I'm relieved to be able to practice normally. I actually feel good laying on my back again -- yay! The best part of this is that I can get back to class next week, which I had been avoiding. I was pleasantly s…

You know it's been a bad day when you'd rather have the doctor cut a hole in you than go to yoga class. I had been ignoring this little lump on my back all month, but last week it got all big and red and angry. All of a sudden the yoga mat was not my friend (and savasana ... forget THAT torture). The sofa was not my friend. My comfy internet cruising chair ... nope. Not even bed. And July was coming!!!
I tried class yesterday, thinking that I would just skip anything involving my back to the ma…

My Tuesday/Thursday yoga teacher at the gym had been away on vacation to Riviera Maya in Mexico for the past couple of weeks, so I headed over to the YMCA for classes. I had never been there before, but I enjoyed the change. The woman teaching there really had a great positive energy ... I was happy just being in the room.
Also, she adjusted several of my poses, which I really appreciated. That never happens in the classes I regularly take (unfortunately). But there is a world of difference bet…

I have been so full of anticipation since Yogamum gave July a purpose. Although I have been practicing regularly, it has not been exactly daily ... I hope the discipline of a daily practice will help me add some structure back into my summer schedule, which has become rather random and chaotic now that the children are out of school.
Thinking about WoYo got me juiced up about yoga, so when I saw that there was going to be a special yoga event to celebrate…

I thought I was immune to the flu. Really, it has probably been 20 years or more since I had it. Well, the flu has been going around my office and my community lately. Even my yoga teacher got it. I fell into my usual smug pattern ... sympathy for the poor victims, but secret joy knowing that, once again, the flu would have nothing to do with me.
It was probably justice that the flu hit me full force yesterday. There is such a thing as being too smug. There are, of course, lots of unpleasant sy…

My brother gave me the green gargoyle many years ago after a trip to London. It guards my computer at work, so I've seen it every day for a long time. I needed a backdrop for the picture, so I thought yoga site ... yoga mat. I didn't really have much of a plan or concept.
After I took the picture, it started to grow on me. Here's this strange little guy, clearly out of place, a little uncomfortable on the mat, but happy to be there anyway. I sort of surprised myself by capturing my own feelings about yoga in that image.
