I liked reading about how you got started into Ashtanga at home. It gave me some confidence that I could make it work too. One thing you mentioned, about how your weekly class sometimes concentrated on precision and form, really resonated with me. I've been practicing yoga for about a year and a half and really love it, but have not really gotten any specific guidance on my alignment or technique or form -- my group classes at the gym just don't ever go there. I worry that I have developed some really bad habits!
There is an authentic yoga studio about 30 miles away that I thought I might try this fall when I have more free time (after my youngest leaves for college :), just to see if they do things any differently.
Anyway, I picked up a Richard Freeman DVD series on Ashtanga, and hope to start working through it in July. Your Yoga Today suggestion also looked very cool, but I'll have to figure out a way to roll out my mat near my computer.
Thanks ElDee for your nice comment. Although I'm not practicing everday at least I manage to get up in the morning 4-5 days a week.
You're absolutely right, sometimes we should just focus on our breath and enjoy life.
Thanks ElDee! Any jump-to/through tips are good for me. I can't even get past the mental block of landing on my rump instead of my feet. You'd think that would be a softer landing! hee
MMmmmmmm. I have sworn off sugar and other evil things for two weeks, so of course hot chocolate sounds absolutely lovely. I expect to get cranky real soon. Hoping that I don't get too cranky with Primary too!
And welcome from me - I really need to do something useful with the parents group around here, don't I? I really should get around to memorising the ashtanga terms myself ("That forward bending one with the arms that hurt" doesn't really help my teacher much...)
