Day 31 - Hooray! What a GREAT experience!

I had hatha class today. Thirty-one days in a row! Thanks so much Yogamum for starting this great challenge. I'll be back in February. Over the past few days I've been thinking about the benefits I've noticed from practicing everyday. It is laaatteee, but I'll try to remember a few.

Day 30 - Final Ashtanga of the Month

I did my practice first thing this morning and was glad to have it "out of the way" for the rest of the day. This last week has felt more like I'm pushing myself to practice instead of being drawn to the practice. But the good feeling is also to go into my day knowing I've kept a commitment to myself.

Day 29 - Hatha Class with DH

My husband and I attended our Tuesday Hatha class today. After struggling with motivation to practice over the last few days, it was a relief to get to class and just follow. I finally got a few photos with his feet - and trust me - this is their best side. I couldn't really come up with a proper yoga-related pose - but h

Day 28 - Blazing Saddles Yoga (or - what in the Sam Hill is goin' on around here?)

Weeellll... I was a major slug today and did not do my ashtanga routine. However, at 11:30PM (PM!!!) I slimed my way into the living room and did my 20 min "vitality & rejuvenation" routine. It feels restorative to me and starts with "The Spinal Roll or Rocking Exercise." We sometimes do this roll in class and then s

Day 27 - More Focused and Unhurried Practice Today

I had a nice practice first thing this morning. It was lovely to be able to focus and feel unhurried. I did the ashtanga series that has been working for me - 5 As&Bs, standing sequence, the primary series to boat pose then most of the finishing sequence. It was a fairly focused practice for me despite my girls' shena

Day 26 - Done!

Another hard day. I've been struggling and struggling to get these darn airline tickets booked at an affordable price and I let the insanity of that process ruin my whole day. BUT!! I out-lasted the bastards and got it all buttoned up tonight after the girls went to bed. I waited - and through some mysterious agency, the price d

Day 25 - Had to Force Myself to Practice Today

I had to push myself to get my yoga in today. I was incredibly frustrated over some travel arrangements I've been trying to make. I finally started with my Surya Namaskara As & Bs, did the standing sequence, then my primary series, but had to stop and pick up the kids at that point. When I noticed the day slipping a

Day 24 - Class This AM

Had a nice restorative class this morning. And that's about it. Went on a "date" with my husb and saw Juno - really liked it. Home practice tomorrow.

Day 23 - Ashtanga and filling up the photo bucket

I went back to my ashtanga practice today. It's feeling more and more routine to me. I'm getting to where I remember what's around the next bend. But I'm not really a creature of habit, so I'm glad to have my two classes where things get all mixed up and I get into different poses.

I'd run bone dry on foot-based yoga photo ideas and was scraping t… Continue

Day 22 - Wow It is day 22 already

I had a hatha class today. Gosh we have such fun in class - swapping recipes, fruit from trees at home, advice. I love that group of women. My poor husband was back in class today for the first time in months and he got teased mercilessly. He's a real good sport tho, and took it well. I hope he'll be back on Thursday too. As… Continue

Day 21 - Ashtanga Break

I decided to dial back today to my old home practice. I still get inversions, but I feel more right about holding poses as long as I like. The sciatica whispered in the background, so I took it real easy. It was kind of fun to do the old sequence again. I love ashtanga, but I also love experiencing other poses - there

Day 20 - Sneaking in Under the Wire!

I went for a lovely long hike this morning, then had the kids when I returned and my DH went for a bike ride. So yoga didn't make it onto the calendar till after the girls were in bed. I finally got myself over to my mat and had a reasonably good ashtanga practice. I backed off again on my intensity in the seated forw

Day 19 - Sciatica Better, Kids Wild

The girls helped me practice today. This included, but was not limited to: changing the music, crawling under me in the middle of vinyasa, and hopping in a cirlce around my yoga mat. In warrior 2, they were circling me like a pack of hyenas and my little one kept passing just

Day 18 - Abbreviated Ashtanga

I had abbreviated ashtanga practice today and will probably do more this evening. I had to cut it short to get lunch over to school for my daughter. Regarding the sciatica, I go to the chiro tonight for an adjustment. Thanks to everyone for their information and advice. I really don't want this to be related to my ashtanga

Day 17 - Still Practicing - Now with Sciatica

During class this morning, I noticed my right buttock seemed sore. After practice, I drove 1.5 hrs to see a friend and had a really uncomfortable trip. I've never had trouble sitting in my LIFE. I got a lot of relief by cradling my right foot in my arms and raising it to my chest with bent knee while seated. I can onl

Day 16 - Moon Salutations

Were it not for this forum, I'd have missed practice today. I spent most of the day on a historic review request submission that one city planner told me I needed before submitting plans. Late in the day, I called in for clarification on one part of the form and learned that it wasn't really needed (from a planning manager) yet.

Day 15 - Happy Class

Had hatha class today. Love that group. Oh! Everyone's suggestions for improving my savasana are paying off - especially the idea about being washed by ocean waves. I used that imagery with my breath (inhale, wave in / exhale, wave out). Of course I imagined 105deg waves - gotta be really warm. It did help quite a bit. I'll try

Day 14 - Tired, but Strangely Warm

I was so low energy today. I finally pulled my butt off my computer chair around 10:15am and forced myself into the livingroom to practice. I'd have loved a class today to take the pressure off my self-motivation, but I don't get one till tomorrow. I put on St

Day 13 - The Purity of Low-Gear Ashtanga

I'm loving how my recently revived ashtanga practice is providing me with such a well-rounded work out. I'm hesitating to type "workout" because it is so much more than that. The past couple of days I've been appreciating how I can make so much progress physically with so little gear.

Day 12 - Gratitude

My sweet girls are home, so it was a bit of a juggle to actually complete my practice today. Fortunately, they found a small bag of old chocolate chips in my office. They grabbed the bag and ran off like a squeaky wolf pack to devour it. I ignored this, choosing my yoga over their dental health. That was good for about 15 mi… Continue
