Fitting yoga in and around parenting - how on earth do we do it?! (Sorry about the random image. Though I suspect us parents need a lot of coffee...)

It's the blessing and the curse of Primary Series: It's great to fall back on because you just DO, you don't have to think ... but, you don't have to think. Maybe that's why you're bored -- you're not engaging your creativity!

Thanks for the comments by the way! What I should do is pull out one of the hatha DVDs that my partner has around every now and then. Or just remember that I do have a repertoire of other poses to draw on...

Time can be an evil enemy! Your comment about the class is a keen observation. As much as I've learned from a home practice, not much can beat the energy of a class and the guidance of a good teacher. Classes really help keep me inspired as a stud...

Time! Though I wonder how much of that particular outburst had to do with being unable to get to a class over the last couple of weeks - I noticed that I had no problem throwing myself into a full class surrounded by other people and with an engag...

Hmmmm. That has always been my premise of why I wouldn't like either Bikram or Ashtanga. I've done much more Ashtanga (near-daily practice in January, sporadically before and after that) than Bikram (only 2 or 3 classes total) , but I've never las...

With yoga, that is. I've got a reasonably high capacity for sticking at things but I'm definitely starting find a regular practice, well, boring. THe same poses in the same order OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! I'm BORED. BORED BORED BORED!!!! Is t...

Thank you! Don't know many ashtanga teachers yet myself but if they can't decipher an asana from some vague anatomical terms and the bits where it hurts they can't be any good;)

Hi and thanks for the welcome, my baby is 10 months and it's a struggle to do the hosework and remember to pay bills so yoga has fallen by the wayside. Which is bad because I feel so much better - in body and mind - when I do it. Perhaps in a few years.....

thanks for the comment - yes, occasionally I can get to a class, but the issue is childcare. My husband watches my son when I go to my part time job, so when I'm home, he's generally working. My gym provides childcare though, so when he's a little older I can leave him there (he just doesn't usually last 90 minutes yet).

I bet there's a large number of us practicing with the little ones under foot. There's a thread over here: http://woyopracmo.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=1443288%3ATopic%3A9909 that I keep meaning to read up on so guess I should go do that.

Grrr...Struggling!

With yoga, that is. I've got a reasonably high capacity for sticking at things but I'm definitely starting find a regular practice, well, boring. THe same poses in the same order OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! I'm BORED. BORED BORED BORED!!!!

Is there some sort of wall of boredom one hits with astanga at some point or other?

It's really the end of Feb already?!?

Or all but!

Crikey, that crept up on me. I'm swamped by work and parenthood (the later becoming more of a consistent joy again, the former...well, let's not go there) but after a bit of a slump at the beginning of Feb, am well into practice again. Though for some of you, calling a regular 20 mins 'well in' may be stretching a point :-)

Interestingly, I find my focus of interest has shifted and that I'm really enjoying the primary series more than anything. Previously, I'd pound through the As… Continue

Made it! Kind of...

...provided one accepts that I was yogic breathing for all I was worth whilst dealing with Demon Child on that particular day.

Congrats everyone who's stuck through this - it's been a real motivator for me during a time when all I really want to do is curl up under a blanket and play violent video games rather than stretch out on a mat and face up to whatever's going on in my poor, overstretched noggin...

Aargh! Tumbled off the wagon...

...so to speak. Yesterday was one of those days when dudelet (our 5yo) was just determined to chennel the Ur-Devil Child. By the time we reached the evening, all we could think about was eating. And drinking. And as for yoga, after 24 straight days of remembering to do something, no matter how ill or exhausted I felt, I just forgot.

Meh. Hopefully I'll do better today, especially if my partner can keep an eye on both kids for just a little while. But I'm shattered.

In haste! Day 20 and still going! New class! Jobsworths!

So yesterday was my first experience of a Mysore style astanga class. I've been managing 20 to 30 mins a day for the last couple of weeks (after my nidra focused beginning to the month due to flu) but I still was a bit apprehensive about a) a new teacher - same Shala but changes in their timetable meant this was the only class I could manage and b) a full class for the first time since mid December!

The first little speed bump was not having a mat with me (long story of personal disorganization… Continue
