About Me:
I love yoga! I had my first class when I was 18 and it was love at first sight. I began teaching in 1992. I have since taught over 8,000 hours, graduated 65 beginner-level teachers, and 9 advanced level teachers. I live to inspire others to live their yoga.

I am looking forward to the month of January to track what I really do each day. I am a firm believer that a yoga practice is much more than the physical asanas. It is also breathing, meditation, studies of the sutras, especially the yamas and niyamas. There is much to the practice of yoga and I am looking forward to tracking precisely what I do each day.

I also adore new beginnings, especially a new year. The freshness feels like such a clean slate. My theme for the year is "creativity" so I look forward to exploring that in my practice. I also want to deepen my breathing practice. Physically I want to open my psoas more to deepen my back bends and my hamstrings to deepen my forward folds.

Day 17-20: Still here!

I am still practicing daily! Yay! I have been up before the sun doing my meditation and my practice.

I am off to Costa Rica on Friday and will return on the 1st so I won't be posting. Since I am going to lead my first yoga retreat, I think I will be regular with my practice each day! So, as long as I do something for the next three days, I will have successfully completed the month. Again, another yay! I solemnly swear to continue....

Day 13-16: Practice In the Cracks

I have been busy preparing for my yoga retreat to Costa Rica. It is the first I have led! I am usually excited, sometimes nervous, and occasionally completely freaked out about taking such a step. Luckily the latter doesn't last for long.

The business has kept me from posting, though, and I miss this community! Plus, I haven't been doing as much with my practice as I would like. I have, though, done something every day, something I may not have done if it wasn't for Yogamum. So, again, I thank… Continue

Day 9-12: Still Here!

I am still here! Apparently blogging isn't part of my practice! :-) I have been practicing every day. I had a fabulous Master Class yesterday. The Master Class is the group I blogged about a few weeks ago. I teach it once a month to a group of teachers. We study one pose in-depth and do pranayama and meditation. The pose is chosen the previous month by the group. I then study it for the month and share my insights. This month they challenged me with Natarajasana -- not my favorite pose. At least… Continue

Day 6/7/8: Meditation

My home practice days have been the past three days. Tuesday and Wednesday I teach a lot already and on Thursdays I coach and then go off to Homeschool play group so it is a family day by choice. I start and end my day with quiet meditation. Powerful for bringing a sense of inspiration and purpose into my day. I also did some work on my psoas, releasing a strengthening it. (If you need some podcasts for releasin… Continue

Thank you for asking! Better, both back at work and still on with challenge despite everything. But our 1yo has a cough that sounds like sixty a day habit and she's lost her voice, poor thing. She's playing and running around again, though, so is on the mend...

Thank you so much for that. I can't wait to try it out on myself and my students! What brilliant ideas. :)

Thanks that would be great! I think it will be a great theme for the New Year for myself and my students. It makes so much sense! Lou

Thanks, YogaLaurie! You have some great pics in your photo box! I should probably change my avatar b/c that was two and a half years ago! The beach pictures were done at Popham Beach in Maine. We vacation there in the summer and every year I've said I'd like pics and we finally did it this past summer. Always nice to cross the, "I want to..." off the list!

I am having a month of much non traditional practice :>) and loving it. Yesterday I taught my stepson a practice for his shoulders and we did it together.

Hi Laura -- thanks for checking in on my discussion, it suddenly has new life! I think one reason I haven't found a teacher is because I have a hard time anwering your first question. I don't really know what I want in a teacher. But, I do know that I definitely do not want to stay in the Power Yoga realm -- my mentor in my 200-hour training is very Tantric-based and I learned so much about chanting, yoga nidra, meditation, philosphy and breath. Schools or traditions like Anusara, Jivamukti and Kundalini are where I really gravitate toward. They have physical power, sure, but a much deeper metaphysical power!

I think I also get hung up on whether it needs to be a "national" teacher training, or just my own dedication to a local school or teach and exploration on my own commitment.

How did you find Matt? Do you consider him your teacher?
