Not Feeling it Today

I think I'm having a rebellious day today - I simply don't want to do anything. :( This is not good - I'm off today, because I was on call yesterday, and I slept last night so this is the perfect time to get caught up on everything and take some time for myself. I just don't want to do anything!

But (of course), I'm going to - I'm going to get moving. I TIVO the Inhale program (Steve Ross) on Oxygen, because I love the funky music he plays. I think that's what I'll do today, along with a 30-min… Continue

Trauma Call

Today I am pulling 12-hour trauma call at the hospital, but I've managed (so far) to squeeze in 20 minutes of practice in the breaks. I tried a short video from Yoga Today (www.yogatoday.com) and found it refreshing and invigorating! We have a small call room with a bed and a desk and computer that we can use during downtime between cases. Today's practice was the DVD "Iron Yoga" by Anthony Carillo - yes, I know it's old, but it was my first yoga workout. Before this, I am ashamed to admit that I thought of yoga as something for people who couldn't do other things. In fact, the first time I did the DVD I had eight pound weights in my hands - this lasted maybe three minutes before I put them down and picked up the one-pounders. This is when I realized that yoga could be hard.

After I finished the DVD, though (and, yes, I did finis… Continue

Day Two Complete

I did just fifteen minutes of yoga today, followed by 4 minutes or so of resting in pigeon pose (not sure what the actual name is). Pigeon is my favorite pose - it really feels great to my tight lower body. And by tight, I do NOT mean firm and fit - I mean inflexible!

My least favorite pose is half moon - I am dreadful at it and I always lose my balance. It is the most advanced pose I currently attempt, and I haven't yet attained the pose to my satisfaction. But, it's a process, right? I hope t… Continue

Timely Support

Okay, I have a confession to make. I was ready to give up on this, before I even started. I had reasons that seem very credible - school is incredibly demanding right now, with 50-60 hours of clinical practice, on top of class and study, and I'm writing a thesis. Oh, and I have children, and a spouse, and pets, and a small farm - it just seemed like too much to add one more thing.

But then I logged into my e-mail and found two wonderful comments, from people who don't even know me, but are exte… Continue
