There is a great deal to be said for the sense of community and discipline cultivated in a good Mysore style shala and traditional Ashtanga can be amazingly transformational. Sounds like you have a strong, dedicated practice!

Hi Sophia - AYS Toronto used to run out of a studio I taught at in the Annex (Twist), but I've never been to their Mysore classes.

I don't often make it to classes because I teach yoga full-time and my schedule is pretty tight during the week.

Do you ever take classes at Downward Dog?

I've been away from writing for a few days, probably because there has not been much to write about. I've been practicing regularly and it's been consistent and steady. No major breakthroughs but no major issues either. Kapotasana is getting closer all the time. I am waiting for the day I get it on my first try instead of my third.

Moon Days.....

I've decided that I love and hate moon days. Lately the full moon has been coming at the same time as my lady's holiday, so I welcome the day of rest. But it also happens that just as I think I'm making progress, the extra day sets me back. I know all I talk about is Kapotasana, but it's bugging me that for every step forward, I end up taking two back. Today felt ok but I needed help grabbing my heels. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

Progress

I actually made progress in Kapotasana today! On my third try I grabed my left heel very easily but then it seemed my right shoulder was way out to the side and I could not get it close enough to grab my other heel. On my next try- (yes I was exhausted by then) I grabed my left heel again and then my teacher eased my right hand on my right heel. Anyway, it's the closest I've been on my own. Winter

So not much has been going on. I have been practicing every day. Friday was just primary so it went fairly well. I love Fridays because after practice I go to see my shiatsu therapist. She's the best, working out all my tight muscles.
Saturday I teach a little class for my cousins and aunts. Its just a small class they actually talked me in to teaching. It's fun, and I end up doing a little yoga because they are all beginers and I need to demonstrate. Also on Saturdays I like to do a little… Continue

Yoga mirror

Again, practice felt tight and heavy. I've been feeling that a lot lately. I think it has something to do with finding myself in the dead of winter in Canada. The days are still dark and dreary and there has been very little sun. I can't wait unti spring! As I get older I am less and less tolerant of the cold. I'm not a wimp either. I grew up in central Canada which has even colder winters. I think I just miss the sun.
