Thank you for welcoming me - I've been bad at getting back to this site, but I love it. I need to practice more, and write about that practice. Thank you for your support - even reading your blog, I can feel it.

Hi Sisina - Thanks for your reply. Yes! I love the "muscle containment and boundaries". And also love the full body engagement. I will bring that into my practice. I really struggle with the boundaries because most of the time I REALLY want to go as far as I am able, it does feel good in the moment! There are times I feel the "joint panic" too. Lets stay connected - to each other and in our joints!!!

Hi Sisina: I read your thread about special-needs yoga. I am also hyper-flexible. I can dislocate too but I do have control over when it happens. I have struggled with my HF ever since I started to practice yoga. I would love to talk with you about how you deal with it. It makes me feel very alone in a world where most people are trying to achieve more flexibility!

About Me:
I'm hoping to use this project as a way to rededicate myself to my practice. Having a connective tissue disorder has added some complexities to my practice over the years, but working past my condition always brings me much benefit in the end. Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity to bring it back into my life!

July 10-12

I really wasn't feeling the motivation to practice on the 10th, my hip was still feeling awkward, and the general muddied feeling of my previous practice felt inevitable. I dragged myself to my mat using the accountability of the challenge as a prod, figuring I'd try a restorative, and just 'get it over with'. While setting up my IPod for some music, I suddenly felt a wave of "Oh, f@#%k it!" and switched it to the beginners' vinyasa podcast I'd tried before. A calculated risk - the potential to… Continue

July 7 - 9

The 7th was m experimentation with a beginner level podcast. Much more challenging than I expected - I would called it a practice for "athletic beginners". Still quite satisfying and effective, though.

The 8th was my 31st birthday 'observed'. I was born June 27th, but work requirements upon Himself led us to push the day back, as my preferred way of spending my birthday is wandering around the East Village with Himself, window shopping, and visiting a teahouse. It was a long day filled with goo… Continue

July 6, Muddy, but there.

Today I think I rather over estimated what I was ready for in terms of the practice. I've been feeling the need for some core work, both physically and emotionally, but the sequence was a tough too challenging, so the practice felt muddied, 'stuck' a bit. I've been feeling some muscle aches since I've begun the month, nothing major, but a gentler practice is called for tomorrow. I think I'm going to try a beginner sequence podcast, because the idea of coming back to basics and working a little m… Continue

July 5, the best medicine.

A somewhat longer podcast today, sought out as a refuge after some difficult moments - nothing major, just the expected ups and downs of daily life, but I found myself eager for the shelter and transformational capabilities of the mat. The practice went by shockingly fast, and I followed it up with an audio guided pranayama, something I've never tried before. I find the breath-based practices somewhat difficult, it always seems like devoting my attention to my breath makes me feel like I'm starv… Continue

July 4, no podcast today

I felt the need to spend a little more time on precision, and audio practices (at least the ones I listen to) tend to move too fast for that. There's something very centering about drilling down into the 'machine', feeling the bones stack, feeling the muscle encase them, breathing into it and finding out on a lower, detailed level how everything is working, how it all comes together. Unsurprisingly, I'm thinking about how to bring that pin-point attention into other parts of my life, particularl… Continue
