Nice to meet another part-time university teacher here! I teach law part-time for the Open University here in England.

I think it would be great to get to know each other this time around! Thanks for the invitation. I'm so sorry I haven't been able to get you your painting. Things have been crazy around here. Forgive me? I'll get to work on it ASAP.

Seastar, I always thought if I was going to return to live in Canada, I'd probably choose Nova Scotia. Do you have a blog where you share your life there?

Hi there Seastar. It looks like you've won a piece of my art! Congrats on working through the entire 31 days of Practice! I'm sorry I didn't get the opportunity to know you during the challenge but there's no time like the moment we're in. I was thinking that, if you'd like, I could paint a piece of art for you of your favorite Yoga pose or something else that symbolizes your WoYoPracMo accomplishment. It might take me a little while to get it finished and sent out to you, if you're willing to wait. Otherwise, I was thinking I could send you the painting you see as my Avatar for WoyoPracMo. Send me a message and let me know what would work best for you.

Again, Congrats!

Hi SeaStar! You commented on my page and I came over here to say Hi! I see you are in BC, so my llama packer can't support your hikes, but check out http://www.llamapackers.com/03_kids.html ... my dh and i got back into the mountains with little kids using llamas. Also check out the galleries page for photos of some of our trips. If you have a toddler that one of you can carry in a backpack, this is the perfect time to get back in the mountains. Have fun! Heels down? Well, that day might be a while off for me, but I really can see progress day by day. Thanks for the encouragement.

BTW, I really love your picture on the beach at twilight ... it is so beautifully peaceful.

About Me:
I'm a 31 year old mother of a joyful little toddler and wife to my best friend. I love to hike, camp, backpack, sail, sit by the ocean, read, play with my little one and of course do yoga. I also teach university chemistry part time.

I was drawn to yoga after a 3 month sail aboard a working tall ship in the South Pacific. While there, I felt a strong connection between mind and body and wanted to maintain and explore it further. A new Ashtanga yoga shala had opened in my area and I joined the very first class. I have practiced up to six times a week but still struggle with maintaining a regular practice. Practicing every day for July has come at exactly the right time!

end of July and now August

I did it. I practiced at least 10 min every day for the whole month of July. One thing I've learned is that I just need to get on the mat with the intention of doing 10 min. If I do that and go on, then fine and if not, I did 10 min and my mind and body are thankful for it. This is a change from my previous view that I needed to always do my 60-75 min Ashtanga practice or there was no point.

So I'm on vacation at my in-laws now and still practicing every night for at least 10 min. After a 7 hou… Continue

Busy but still practicing

I've been busy lately but I've been faithfully practicing.

July 28 - 20 min before bed, nothing stands out

July 29 - 10 min before bed done in work clothes in semi-darkness since my eyes hurt. All I could picture were 2 crying racoons. On the way home the car in front of me hit them crossing the road. When I swerved around them, they were lying on the road in seizures and I could hear their screaming through my open window. I still feel for the poor little things.

July 30 - 80 min Mysore styl… Continue

crying on the mat

I am a bit embarassed to be writing this post, truth be told. I'm not much of a "public" cryer and alluding to it on a blog is kind of public.

Last night, I was mentally overwrought again. Sometimes I feel like I'm pregnant again. I got on the mat and sat in half-lotus to meditate for a while. I felt the urge to do some back bends (never thought I'd say that!). While doing back bends I just started crying. Not your all out sobbing but tears running down my cheeks. There's been a lot going on wi… Continue

yoga after wine

Blecch. Not a good idea. My husband and I had a nice dinner last night complete with wine. I drank close to half bottle. Before bed, I did 10 min of yoga. Not a very centered or balanced practice. I meant to practice early but munchkin was super fussy and I couldn't drag myself to the mat with all the crying around nap time.

Relaxing meditation and practice

Last night, I sat by the lake on a rock in half lotus for 45 min. Half the time, I meditated with my eyes closed and the other half, I took in my surroundings. It was just getting dark and the trout were jumping and there were two bats flitting here and there snatching up insects. It sprinkled rain for a few minutes. Amazing how rain hitting your skin on a hot night can make you feel more alive. It was a warm salve for an overwrought spirit.

After that, I did my shortenend 20 min Ashtanga pract… Continue
