I moved away from yoga buddies so now it's home practice. I do go to a class or two - usually a different tradition from my Ashtanga practice. But I got lucky and a good teacher started Mysore classes in a neighboring town but I only go twice a we...

Homebodies is a group for those of us who have a home practice. Either your schedule is too hectic, there isn't a studio close by or finanically we just can't afford it. This is a group to share inspiration to get us on the mat at home!

Hi. I haven't hung out at WoYo for a while because I moved from Colorado (home of Yogamum) to the UK. I'm way up in North Yorkshire, in Harrogate. I practice at home and go to Mysore practice in Leeds twice a week.

Does what it says on the tin. Yoga and yogis, UK style. From the UK home and abroad, practising in the UK or coming to the UK... all welcome.

A Time for Breath, Prayer and more

It has been a while since I have posted. A lot has happened since my last posting although I have been visiting and watching WoYo and doing my practice as best I can. My family picked up and moved from Colorado, the middle of the US to Harrogate, the middle of the UK. The yoga community exists but it is not what I am used to. It's getting to be winter and a cold one at that.

But lately I have had a hard time focusing on my practice because my daughter's friend's mom is desperately fighting for… Continue

Pathways

I haven't been posting much but have been enjoying the posts that I get a chance to read. It seems like I keep having to work and that throws off my blog time and my practice.

I teach a class at a corporate wellness center, and have been for four years. I really enjoy this class even though I know none of my students will be gracing the cover of Yoga Journal any time soon. That's okay - I started teaching because I felt that I wanted to pass along that which I have grown to love. Lately, with a… Continue

The real obstacle?

So we are challenged to identify our most challenging posture that is "either difficult for you or that may bring feelings of aversion, helplessness or despair when you imagine including it in your practice". That takes me about a nanosecond to identify - Supta Kurmasana. Try as I might, I just can not get that posture. I think I vented (whined?) about it in a previous post. I get flat on the floor with my heels drawn up in Kurmasana. Then I flounder around in transition - just touching my finge… Continue

Weird

This has been a good practice week. I felt like I had good practices - not too many of those desparate sun salutations at 10:00 p.m. this time. I had an "interview" with a studio today that involved teaching a class of experienced practitioners. I chose to do something very close to the Ashtanga primary series (well, that's what I know) but since they are not familiar with the series I ended up dong a fair amount of the asana with the class. I enjoyed the students as I always do. After, I answer… Continue

Grounding or dinking?

So I was thinking a little bit about what "grounding" might mean to me. On Friday I went to a workshop for "yoga teachers" put on by basically a fitness organization (of which I am always skeptical) where I end up having to go to their courses so I can keep up some semblance of paper certification. It was a different teacher than they usually had, thank god, and I actually came away with some good reinforcement. For example, he said the best thing that one can to to really live a life of yoga is… Continue
