Hi, I realize that I never responded to the questions in the inquiry and I wanted to share mine with everyone. 1. Why do you practice? What are you seeking? I practice yoga to be more in tune with the present moment through my body. I believe I ...

Our next class will be devoted to neck and shoulders - so everyone will be able to benefit!! Let's talk about what might be useful as far as stuff to take home. I've been mulling that over - would it be a good idea for me to have our class sequenc...

What type of yoga do you practice?
Kripalu, Yin, Vinyasa, Iyengar. A mix, or, whichever one is calling my name on any given day.
How long have you been practicing yoga?
15 years
About Me:
In 1994, I walked into my first Yoga class at Oregon State University, and fell in love. I landed in my body for the first time I could remember. I was hooked. I studied Iyengar Yoga exclusively for many years, until I felt I needed a change, something with more movement. At that juncture, I began studying Vinyasa, or Flow Yoga with a vengeance for about five years, until I injured my wrist and was forced to re-evaluate my practice. The injury led me to Kripalu Yoga and Yin Yoga, gentler practices with more focus on awareness and patience.

In 2003, I was certified to teach yoga through Kripalu and shortly thereafter, I became certified to teach Whole Birth Prenatal Yoga. My teaching style incorporates what I believe are the best qualities of all the types of Yoga I have studied and practiced over the years: the precision of Iyengar, the breath and flow of Vinyasa, the mindfulness and awareness of Kripalu and Whole Birth, and the patience of Yin Yoga.

I believe that life itself is our best teacher, which means my writing naturally spans many diverse topics that may seem unrelated: parenting, relationships, nourishment, moving, traveling, community service, being global citizens, and, of course, the practice of Yoga and meditation. Yoga is a wonderful tool, among many, that provides the quiet, inward turn that allows us to access the innate wisdom that allows us to be our own best teachers.

October's Theme

I am so down with this! I am currently working at meditating every day, so this works in perfectly for me! I practice mindfulness meditation and I certainly swing between more Yoga/ more meditation, depending on where I am at in life. I agree with someone else's post that this time of year, meditation is particularly important with new schedules and all.

I am committing to 30 minutes of meditation a day at the moment, and 10 to 15 minutes of Yoga. It can be difficult to find time, but if I make the time, it seems to work better. I am looking forward to hearing how others work with meditation in their practices...

WoYoPracMo - January

This was, indeed, one of the fastest months I can recall! I so enjoy checking in here and seeing what others are up to in their practice, I wonder why I don't continue doing so year round?

I love this community of people, of Yoginis. And I love the energy that surrounds the intention to practice every day in January. I am happy to say I deepened by daily practice by participating and that is always welcome!! Thank you all for being here and participating with such gusto! And thank you YogaMum a… Continue

WoYoPracMo 24/25/26

I really should start writing down what I do during my practice. I can remember yesterday and the day before, but, for the life of me, I can't remember what my practice consisted of on the 24th. Yet, I KNOW I practiced. Bah!!!

Anyway, Sunday we went snowshoeing again and I desperately needed to practice when we got home. Erick let me slink off for a long practice, thank goodness. I'm always amazed when my body is clamoring for different poses as I'm holding one. At one point, I was in Baddha Ko… Continue

Blogging doesn't seem to be a sustained part of my practice this month!! LOL... I have been having a really lovely month of Yoga. My daughter has recently been having some allergy issues, which has been stressful, and I'm always grateful to have my Yoga and meditation practice during times like theses!!

The 21st and 22nd, I had short, balanced practices, followed up with meditation and yesterday I taught my Friday class, which is always so much fun!

One thing I notice is that my practice reall… Continue

WoYoPracMo Days 19 & 20

Still here, I am I am!!!

The 19th I was able to have a lovely long practice with the holiday - wonderful! Yesterday, was quick practice between work and watching the inauguration!! Woo Hoo!!

I am still trying to find a place that I might go to practice as a student, but haven't come up with anything. It seems that the policy is you go for a trial class which is free, and then you have to pay for weekly classes for a period of time. And all the trial classes are beginner classes. I will keep lo… Continue

We had a lovely weekend up in the mountains! Sunshine and snow - ahh, bliss!!!

My practices were pretty much on the fly - Friday I had a long practice, which was really nice, followed with 20 minutes of meditation time. Saturday we were on the mountain, snowshoeing and sledding all day, at one point, Erick was off snowshoeing and Clara was having an awesome time sledding, so I sat near her and meditated. I haven't had the occassion to meditate in the mountains very often, and it's easy to forge… Continue

Hi - thanks for adding me as a friend! I practise at the IALS in via Fracassini - it is a dance school and has a daily ashtanga class, and I try to go once a week. I am _trying_ to establish a somewhat consistent home practise...
All the best, F.

Hi Nona, I just saw your new Rome yoginis group. I am a Rome beginner yogini - is it ok if I join, or did you mean the group more to keep in touch with your class?

Do you have the link for that video? I would love to see it. I edited my profile - perhaps you can take a look and see where I'm coming from in the yoga department. Perhaps you'll even have some suggestions? I've really enjoyed the yoga we've been doing at our meetings. I think it helps that I also really enjoy the company - and those brownies!! ;)

Nona,
Okay, I just saw your return to my comment on 12/14. I am fairly new to these "walls" and I didn't know where to find it! I studied Italian art and language and loved Siena! Three years in Rome! How fabulous! You must go to Cinque Terre. My favorite!

Hi Nona,
I loved reading about your journey with yoga. How exciting to be in Italy for 3 years. I have also studied with Laura and got so much out of the Year of Living series that she did. You will love it.

I am so excited about participating in the year of compassion... it's good to hear that it was such a good experience. It is exactly what I am looking for to grow my own practice and teaching! :)
