Hey Noelle- How are you?
I wanted to follow up and let you know a few things I've learned.
First- everyone's different so it's hard to give a basic prescription of poses per say- what YOU should ask yourself are questions about your body and what it needs. I'm finding with chronic illnesses- something which constantly needs our tending & care- days and moments differ. What I want to help teach people is how to ask themselves how they feel now in that moment- then do asana or pranayama or meditation to get yourself to where you'd like to be. Practicing asana with awareness of your breath throughout ( think a moving meditation) prepares you to listen and hear what you're body is telling you. Sometimes we hear but don't listen or ignore. I'm sure you understand & can listen to your body in a way many others can't. Learn to love that- to adore it- practice with it- practice for it- all the while breathing in each breath with awareness.
Overall- a balanced practice would be most safe for most. Meaning not too energizing- nor to relaxing. Always err on the side of gentle and check out other avenues of Yoga like breath work (pranayama) or meditation. If you feel super tired- try breath work or a few gentle poses to get in touch with your breath. If you need energy- practice intently but gently. Don't over do it being key. Asana just prepares you for sitting with the mind- still in meditation. In the West- we think of it as a workout- it can be so much more. ;o)
Some books & videos I'd recommend are here http://yogaempowered.blogspot.com/search/label/bOOks%2F%20DvDs
and the rest is for you to learn from so enjoy- please ask questions- try stuff. See what you find. Any questions- lemme know!
Rock YOUR Practice!

You know I just spent some time in a teacher training today that started to address diabetes. I'll definitely let you know about more as I get more info. I think we're just getting into it so purrfect timing!
For now- first and most- Honor your body. You know if you don't have your health... things tend to unravel. So learn in your practice now- to listen to what your body needs ( is your mind- clear, dull- what do you need - *key here is its not always what you want* - energetic or more relaxed...)
Check this post out http://yogaempowered.blogspot.com/2008/11/developing-your-practice-ask-yourself.html

Learning to accept my body even when I don't like what its saying has been a huge lesson from yoga for me. Somehow breathing & moving in a meditative way has brought me more compassion for my body & everything else. It empowers me! Body, Mind and Spirit- I love sharing! Thank YOU!!!

Somedays you may need a relaxing, calming, centering practice- why then- do an energizing practice. Listen and practice for YOUR needs. Life changes each day- let your practice adjust & change with YOU!

Almost there!

I am still keeping up my practices, and I have no reason to believe I won't do one tomorrow which means I DID IT! Woot! I am really very proud of myself. :) My work lately has been focusing on real meditation - I am definitely seeing progress in the quieting of my mind.

Hi guys. Sorry I have been MIA for a few days, but I have kept up with daily practices (yeah!). The most dramatic change I have noticed is my energy in the early afternoon (my usual slump time) is much better lately. And my shoulder flexibility, while far from normal since I have bilateral adhesive capsulitis, is MUCH better. The only downside as I can see it is getting up so dang early, but I'll take it - the pluses outweigh the minuses for me.

I got both practices done - yesterday and today. Felt tingly and centered yesterday. More energized today than anything else. I'm a total convert! :)
