The workshop was a combination of discussion and yoga so there was discussion between each yoga section. Each section began with breathing. I had them lay on their backs with knees bent and then focused on their breath. For the first section, Release, I had them think of what it was they wanted to release. I had them visualize where it was in there body. (This was so cool. They ALL could feel where they held it!) then they breathed into it and exhaled it away. We then did twists to release more deeply.

Dream: Focus on the inhale, bringing the dream in. We then did foot massage to open the feet for more energy. We then did Virab I and II to feel strength and then backbends (esp Ustrasana) to get strength and courage to create the dream.

Gratitude: Focus was on the breath as it was. I had them visualize during the breathing all that they were grateful for. Then we did forward folds, ending with child's. Good stuff!

whoops!

OK so I have already missed a days practice. The funny thing is, it's making me smile to think I missed it! I just felt rebellious. I'm trying not to care so much about things - in general. That might sound bizarre but i think it's a coping with life strategy! So part of not caring yesterday was not caring that I really couldn't be arsed to get up, to motivate myself or convince myself it would be fine once I started (which of course it would have been). My all slightly rubbish excuses included… Continue

108 Gayatri Mantra

I had bad period pains today, so my entire practice was chanting 108 Gayatri Mantra. The idea was given to me by one of my teachers in India who is currently chanting 51,000 times in 12 days to bring in positive light for the new year.

I felt very energised and my eyes looked whiter afterwards!

and. . . . breathe

Days 1 & 2 of this New Year have been great yoga practice wise. The lovely thing about not having practised very much recently is that I don't excpect anything. So it was a beautiful experience today to breathe well with my few surya namaskara. To just be focused is such a joy - my mind has been so troubled and so flitty recently. So this very brief respite has set me up well already. My body and mind are remembering why i love yoga so much.

where did all the yoga go?

i seem to have slipped off the yoga mat. it wasn't a big fall, but i am ready to step back on it again.

the second half of this year saw massive transition in my life - partly my decisions, other things way beyond my control. i went to peru and got bad food poisoning. i broke up with my long time partner and moved away from him, our house and our cat. my dad got diagnosed with cancer a few weeks later. i went a bit funny. (i think i am still a bit funny!)

at a time when a lot of people rely on… Continue

Jooooooliiiiii

Yay for July! I am completely and utterly up for the July challenge. Despite lack of post since, ooh maybe April (?) I have been practising pretty well. I just dont like writing about it for some reason - after a while I didn't want to write about it, it almost felt counter productive for some reason, almost that by drawing that much attention to it it was becoming more strained. difficult to explain.

Well NOW, however . . . I am ready ready ready to blog again for the month of July - just need… Continue
