I do a lot of modifications in my practice, and take care not to do anything that "squishes" the baby (like deep twists). It's been a really interesting experience to learn to take things slower and surrender to the process that is going on in my b…

Thanks for sharing, this sounds like good advice. I'll discuss it with my midwife at my next appointment when the baby has hopefully started considering settling into position. (I think she's still moving around too much to have settled into anythin…

I couldn't do inversions at the end of my pregnancy (although I could do headstand & handstand before I got pregnant) so I'm not sure if it's okay or not - I just know that my body did not feel comfortable doing many of the things I took for granted…

I have no personal experience of doing yoga during pregnancy as I wasn't practising then, but I did practise OFP exercises (optimal fetal positioning), which use kneeling and leaning-forward postures to encourage the baby into the position that will…

Does anyone have experience doing inversions during pregnancy? When did you stop inverting? I have been doing inversions at the wall up until now (7 months), and I don't feel any discomfort when doing them. (Example of my current practice.) I have…

Fitting yoga in and around parenting - how on earth do we do it?! (Sorry about the random image. Though I suspect us parents need a lot of coffee...)

I continued to practice throughout both of my pregnancies and had wonderful results, ie. quicker, easier labor and help with losing the pp baby lbs. I think a pre-natel class is great, and you can meet a lot of other mommies-to-be and learn a lot, bu…

Experiences with practicing while pregnant?

I have done some reading lately on continuing your yoga practice when you are pregnant. Does anyone else here have experience with this? The general advice seems to be that if you have a regular practice already you can continue as long as you are careful and listen to your body. (More about my research at http://chaiandyoga.com/continuing-yoga-practice-during-pregnancy/)

I am a little more than 4 months now, and du… Continue

Street Yoga Teacher Training in Seattle

It sometimes seems like yoga is the domain of those who can easily afford the $15 studio class fee, but the benefits of yoga can make the biggest difference to those that usually don't have access to yoga classes.

Street Yoga is an organization based in Portland that offers free yoga and meditation classes to homeless youth in Portland and Seattle, working to share the teachings of yoga with young people who would otherwise not be able to take a yoga class.… Continue

Question to all Ashtangis

I have just started learning the Primary Series, and I need some advice on how to approach it. How much do you need to know before showing up for a Mysore practice? Is it better to try a few led primary series classes first, or is Mysore better for beginners who might need to practice at their own pace?

Leave a comment for me here or on my blog:

Lightness? I need it...

November is starting to wear me down. I want to eat warm stews and sit inside. My daily yoga practice feels like moving on wet sand. Whoever came up with the November theme of lightness knew what they were doing! I'm not sure what would help -- restore energy with a slower practice, or add some intensity and sweat it out? Does anyone have any advice?

Thunderstorm Yoga

A thunderstorm moved in over the city as I walked to yoga class today, and the warm and humid weather made for a hot vinyasa class. Sometimes I find that I have to be a little careful when practicing in the heat since I feel more flexible than I really am...

Came out from class and it started raining. I love summer rain, everything smells amazing!
