I'm glad that you are liking your practice. It's inspiring just to read all of the good it is doing you! Did you learn Ashtanga at home? If so, how did you do it? I want to try it out, but I'll need to learn from DVDs or something because I haven'...

As usual its been ages since I've posted! I don't know why I thought I would be any different about communication in this aspect of my life than I have been in any other. I came late in life (relatively, late teens) to the telephone and since then...

Wonderful to be reminded that research and statistics are very rarely applicable to the real world and real people!:) You may be right about my body knowing what it needs. Maybe I just need to trust myself more and allow whatever is happening to h...

" I'm the original comfort, celebration, relaxation, consolation and stress eater." Sounds like yoga has replaced food as a source of comfort, celebration, etc. and food simply retains its purpose as nourishment. This might seem like not getting e...

I liked reading about how you got started into Ashtanga at home. It gave me some confidence that I could make it work too. One thing you mentioned, about how your weekly class sometimes concentrated on precision and form, really resonated with me. I've been practicing yoga for about a year and a half and really love it, but have not really gotten any specific guidance on my alignment or technique or form -- my group classes at the gym just don't ever go there. I worry that I have developed some really bad habits!

There is an authentic yoga studio about 30 miles away that I thought I might try this fall when I have more free time (after my youngest leaves for college :), just to see if they do things any differently.

Anyway, I picked up a Richard Freeman DVD series on Ashtanga, and hope to start working through it in July. Your Yoga Today suggestion also looked very cool, but I'll have to figure out a way to roll out my mat near my computer.

Thanks ElDee for your nice comment. Although I'm not practicing everday at least I manage to get up in the morning 4-5 days a week.
You're absolutely right, sometimes we should just focus on our breath and enjoy life.

Meat! Meat! Meat! and cheeeeeeeese! Plus a lot of frozen veggies. It does get a bit boring, but I actually feel really good.

Thanks ElDee! Any jump-to/through tips are good for me. I can't even get past the mental block of landing on my rump instead of my feet. You'd think that would be a softer landing! hee

MMmmmmmm. I have sworn off sugar and other evil things for two weeks, so of course hot chocolate sounds absolutely lovely. I expect to get cranky real soon. Hoping that I don't get too cranky with Primary too!

And welcome from me - I really need to do something useful with the parents group around here, don't I? I really should get around to memorising the ashtanga terms myself ("That forward bending one with the arms that hurt" doesn't really help my teacher much...)

Welcome to WoYo!!!

Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Single
What type of yoga do you practice?
Ashtanga mostly but not exclusively.
How long have you been practicing yoga?
3 months
About Me:
I am a mother of a nine year old girl and ten year old boy....can't believe that still! I work in healthcare which is one one of the things that got me thinking about a yoga practice. Seeing people whose bodies have given up on them relatively early in life and also the stress of working with people not at their best.
Just starting out at yoga so this seems like a good way to keep me focused. At the moment I have a good daily home practice but i am also signed up for a led class once a week that starts soon....exciting!

Ages!

As usual its been ages since I've posted! I don't know why I thought I would be any different about communication in this aspect of my life than I have been in any other. I came late in life (relatively, late teens) to the telephone and since then I've never really become attached to communication without a person physically in front of me. And thats not been helped by working in an area where my need to socialize is just about used up by the end of the work week and all I want to do is read and… Continue

Starving Yoga

I think I've posted on this before but whats the deal with a consistent yoga practice and eating? I for one am not a person who likes to starve. I don't like being hungry and I get cranky as hell and really unreasonable if I don't eat regularly. Plus my IBS plays havoc if I don't eat the right foods at the right times. So when I started practicing most days I thought it was a fluke at first that I found it hard to eat enough. I mean this is me! I'm the original comfort, celebration, relaxation,… Continue

A pause in communication

So its been a while since I have posted....like a couple of months at least! I'm really mad at myself because I have no good reason and i find the sense of community here fantastic!
So what have I been doing? Well, not a lot in real life terms. I've turned into a bit of a hermit. And all because of yoga! I practice now 6 days a week minimum and without thought. It's just what I do, like eating breakfast or checking my mail. This is so much more than I thought possible last year. And yes, as far… Continue

Procrastination rules!

While I have always been made aware of the evils of putting off till tomorrow what you should do today, this week held an important lesson for me in letting things lie and seeing what happens. The course of yoga classes that I have been taking was due to finish this week and I had been wondering what to do. While I am very happy where I am, I think I have already mentioned here that I didn't want to go back into a beginners class and start from the basics again but my schedule only allows me to… Continue

Catching up!

I have not posted in ages! Or it feels like that anyway. Lots of yoga the last few weeks.....both my body and mind seem to assume that I will practice every day now so who am I to argue with them:) As a result I'm getting a lot stronger........up to doing full or half primary 6 days a week and hip openers on my rest day.....feeling great mentally and physically for it....Yay!
No major milestones, but definitely starting to enjoy each asana for itself and not rushing through or dreading some of t… Continue
