Soy ice cream is delicious. Particularly the chocolate ice cream sandwiches from So Delicious. And the Purely Decadent line of coconut milk ice cream is delectable.

And...now I want ice cream! :)

some soy ice creams have almost half the calories..no cholesterol..etc.....
i am thinking of Tofutti in particular...

the other kind i like that makes a cookie dough flavor is just as bad as real ice cream.....

see if you can get him turned on to soy ice cream....

That is awesome Mahita Devi-- my husband & I are fairly healthy vegetarians/vegans (most days) but his love of Raw Honey and sweets is what seals the deal! We have to get rid of the Ice Cream!

Hi Jennifer, baby spinach blended into a smoothie with a banana, milk, frozen strawberries came out GREAT! (couldn't tell there was spinach in there, but the smoorhie was great)
Hi Mahita, sorry about the health issues. I get a weekly delivery from a local organic farm for my fresh greens/beans/fruit; the basic box of 'whatever-is-growing-best' usually lasts the week though I do wash & freeze some leafy greens. That seems to save me time as well as $.

i have found that eating raw fruits and veggies is much more expensive than processed crap..... but i know it is better for me.......

and also nuts can be really expensive so keep them to an ounce or two a day......

hugs,
Jennifer

Hi Mahita! I don't know what kinds of budget tricks you already use, so my apologies if I'm only suggesting things that you already do. :) The bulk food section is your best friend. You can get dry beans and grains for really cheap, and those are great bases for nutritious, tasty meals. Making things yourself instead of relying on pre-made stuff is also cheaper, and less processed to boot. Also, do you have a farmer's market in your area? A lot of times, small farmers will follow organic farming practices, but can't afford the official certification, or will use very minimal pesticides, so that could be a great resource for you. Best of luck with your healthy eating goals! :)

i need to get back to using kale in my smoothies.. it is more nutritious than raw spinach......
LotusYogini Comment by LotusYogini on January 1, 2009 at 12:07pm
I use raw spinach and kale (since Kale is full of all kinds of goodness and vitamin K that we need)
I add strawberries, apples or oranges to have some sweetness.
My husband and I are juicing 3-5 times a week to get our green veggies.
For me I can't do the smoothies due to consistancy (just my own issues with it)
So jucing helps me get in the vitamins I need.
I am trying to do more raw meals as well.
Happy 2009!
