A quiet weekend ahead. I'm sitting in the living room, on my own. Will get up soon and do some yoga before the day begins. The sun is shinning. What a delight. Will also go out for a walk along the canal. The busy-ness of these last months slowly settles. Talk about churning up the mud from the bottom of the river. Why do I allow myself to do this over and over again?

In my practice, at least -- I did a short practice this morning in the motel room before everyone woke up and it was a good way to start the day. I felt much calmer and more relaxed all day. I really need to do a vigorous full primary series practice to burn off some of the calories I've consumed. My relatives are all excellent cooks and it's all good heartland food!
Tomorrow is my dad's memorial service. I hope to start the day with yoga again to get me centered as we go through an emotional d…

I felt the need to spend a little more time on precision, and audio practices (at least the ones I listen to) tend to move too fast for that. There's something very centering about drilling down into the 'machine', feeling the bones stack, feeling the muscle encase them, breathing into it and finding out on a lower, detailed level how everything is working, how it all comes together. Unsurprisingly, I'm thinking about how to bring that pin-point attention into other parts of my life, particularl…

Last night was a repeat of the previous night's practice except this time I just wore my work clothes. It was too cold in the room and I was too tired to get changed again. At least they were that fantastic cotton with 2% spandex. It was exactly 10 min of practice since hubby was waiting to go to bed (I practice in our spacious bedroom). I did a few of the seated Ashtanga poses again with Ujjayi breathing but a rather uncentered brain. During Janu Sirsasana I couldn't help but pick at my fading…

I meant to get a led class in on the 1st and 2nd....but due to various disasters :) I didn't get to. I did a home practice both days.
Yesterday, just for spite, I did TWO led classes in a row!! (I'm discovering you can do these things when you own the studio!!) I did a Kundalini class and then a Basic Flow class. I always think the Kundalini class is "no big deal" but she always kicks my butt! It really sneaks up on you!
Today I will do a brief home practice before heading off to our July 4th…

In the morning 10 minutes meditation and that was a good idea. Not only the best friend with serious relationship problems calling me, but also at work - a suddenly arising event we have to organise within then days - In the afternoon the hectic begins to overwhelm me. I´m getting louder. Later I felt a bit ashamed - but my colleague just said, he has no objections against a good swearing.
Nevertheless I feel very good and active at the moment - that´s not evident, as I have a strong tendency o…

Today I did my morning stretches and a few rounds of stretches at my desk during the day. Then the post brought my copy of
The Sivananda Companion to Yoga, so when I finished work, I decided to try the first phase of its four-week beginners' programme. It builds up to the Sivananda Basic Session. The first phase involves Savasana, Sukhasana, neck rolls, eye exercises, Kapalabhati, Surya Namaskar, and leg raises. We've done all of these in class except the eye exercises; rather to my surpr…

Most of Primary; I really didn't want to practice, but I did anyway (benefits of a sequence you can memorize, totally). There's much more about this practice in my formal blog, which sits over here:

Apparently, backbends are a place where I can unlearn fear and weakness. How Jedi Knight!

July 3 was Moon day, as a born again ashtangi I now observe it and appreciate it, my body is grateful for the day's rest, that said I still did some nice yin hip openers and some backbending. After sitting in front of a pc all day at work the need to stretch, even on a moon day becomes too great.
July 4, Unlike over the Pond it wasn't a holiday here, so practice had to wait until I got home from the labour camp. Full(ish) Primary series, well everything up to Marichyasana D, which…

Yesterday night, I was reading a past issue of
Fit Yoga Magazine. It had an article on the right alignment on
Urdhva Mukah Svanasana, which made me think that in my first 24 days of
Yoga Practice I have not given enough thought to exactly what I am doing with each of my limbs and articulations when I move through the
Suryas. OK, not to be unfair with myself: of course I think of the postures when I do them, but the ones that require more strength (such as
Chaturang… Continue
